Possible new names / symbol for ACT

I don't know the NASDAQ rules or specifics but it seems most symbols are 4 letters and the NYSE is 2 or 3 letters with a few exceptions.

Maybe we remain ACTC, but a new name and symbol that catches the eye and ear can't hurt.

Was it not International Business Machine? (Now I see you probably didn't spell it incorrectly). I had a good friend that just died serving that company as a employee of many years and then as a contractor. ACT should be trademarked...no? Thanks for your good post on iCELL.

Nice catch, and sorry to hear about your friend. I've always thought that ACT would be the name thrown around after getting a lot of exposure, the length requires it after becoming a "household name"

I was thinking about that too, but iPS cells will dominate our INDs in the not too distant future. No more controversy, at all. Except they will now be saying that we are playing "GOD" so maybe that should be our symbol....LOL

I like ACT for a symbol, if it's in the NASDAQ, it has to be a 4 letter symbol------if in the American stock or in the Big board, three letters

If the only thing we were curing was ocular I would say EYES would be a good Ticker.

But if ACT is available, I wonder why we aren't already using it, it's perfect.

Selluwud is correct that NASDAQ ticker symbols are generally 4 letters (sometimes 5) and the 3 letter symbol option seems to be primarily for transfer of an already existing 3 letter ticker symbol on another exchange. Whether ACTC should go with a new name and ticker symbol is a tricky call. I kind of like Advanced Cell Technology and ACTC. And I especially like the new logo. Plus we have gotten a lot of very good press recently under those various labels. On the other hand, those various labels have also become associated with "death spiral financing" and many years of bad publicity at the hands of the Bush Administration and the Right Wing evangelicals including even the fully irrational refusal of same to accept the the very real and significant achievement embodied in the technology for generating embryonic stem cells without embryo destruction (NED).

So it might be good to get on to a new name and ticker symbol hoping to, once and for all, get past these tenacious episodes of previous stigma (some legitimate and some not). Interestingly, that would leave us dealing with tackling two new other stigmas at the same time. One, of course, being a reverse split which is an option that usually fails. The other is a name change which also usually works out badly as revival technique for public companies on the stock market.

Still I do think that ACTC is in a stronger and much more optimistic position than most companies going into an R/S or name change and ACTC may well be able to pull this off to reasonable advantage. If they decide to do it I would suggest the following:

I would also suggest they basically maintain the very attractive current logo and merely change the lettering.

reminds me of IBM, how many people know that it stands for Internal Business Machines-what a horrible name.

The first thing we learned playing football was that if ever the press interviewed us, we always spoke in terms of how we could not do what we did without out team... our line, our defense, our backs. We never took solo credit for anything we did on the field. i would imagine the same etiquette would apply here.
