Just maybe Lanza is approaching this from a different perspective. And he has other reasons, why he said what he said.
I had been thinking, that if I am a cancer patient and threatened with death... I will do everything, go anywhere to be treated by a new process, that will at least, "prevent my cancer from progressing.
Or... an MS Patient. or an Alzheimer's patient.

Post 22 of (was 18) – Road to a Million
Where are we? What has changed in the past 50 days? Are we on the schedule suggested in my last post? (“My current belief is at least one JV will be signed in the next 4 to 6 months”).
Well first lets answer the “Where are we?” question.
We have been in Clinical trials for 19 plus months now. Every single patient (but one) was a 20/400 patient and really almost blind or blind.
It seems odd to debate the merits of scientific progress and value when people are dying and illness remains the single biggest impediment to human advancement. Well that’s just the reason for Biotech – right? It’s been over 2 months since my last post. I had a number of family activities that kept me distracted from doing any posts, but I can tell you this it did not keep me distracted from watching the progress the past two months.
